The role of Legal Cashier will play key part in developing and maintaining the operational infrastructure required to grow the business. They will need to work with their financial colleagues supporting all departments and members of staff providing them with accurate and efficient financial support services, ensuring compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules and other relevant regulations. The role is critical for safeguarding client funds and maintaining the integrity of the firm’s financial systems.

The Legal Cashier role is a key member of the operational support team who will assist in the delivery of our vision, and our desired growth along with contributing to the overall happiness of our internal customers and the support team itself. They will need to be self-motivated, driven, lead from the front and be a good communicator.

They will work alongside the other Legal Cashier’s, MD, Commercial Director and Heads of Departments creating an environment and process that delivers outstanding service to our internal customers and our partners. They will report directly into and have the support and engagement of the Commercial Director to become the best possible version of themselves and to influence and help create the best environment around us.

Job Description – Legal Cashier

Technical skills

Client & Office Account Management

  • Assist in the posting of transactions to clients and office ledgers accurately and promptly.
  • Assist in the processing of payments, and cheque requests.
  • Handle client-to-office and client-to-client transfers in line with SRA rules.

Banking & Reconciliation 

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations for client and office accounts.
  • Manage petty cash and residual client balances.

Compliance 

  • Ensure adherence to SRA Accounts Rules, VAT regulations, and anti-money laundering requirements.
  • Report any breaches or irregularities to the MD.

Billing & Payments 

  • Print and process client and office cheques.
  • Prepare and process weekly payment runs.

Administrative Duties 

  • Assist in maintaining accurate records and ledgers through ALB.
  • Respond to ledger queries and assist with write-offs.
  • Support month-end processes, VAT returns, and partner drawings.

Team Support 

  • Provide cover for colleagues during absences.
  • Contribute to team meetings and suggest process improvements.

Operational knowledge

  • Understands appropriate support and admin activities.
  • Accurately follows and executes relevant support and admin processes.
  • Maintains awareness of internal policies.
  • Utilises competently the relevant software and programmes to complete support role.

Risk and Compliance

  • Understands and follows firm policies, SRA and FCA regulations, and confidentiality protocols.
  • Flags potential issues.

Customer Orientation

  • Demonstrates professionalism and responsiveness in client interactions including internal customers, referrers, colleagues and 3rd party partners.
  • Builds trust through reliable service.

Commercial & Sector Awareness

  • Understands basic commercial drivers and client industries.
  • Understand the commercial drivers and support needs of internal customers.
  • Applies this to legal advice/practice or your internal support service delivery.
  • Understands financial markets, products and economic trends.

Communications & Influence

  • Communicates clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Adapts tone for different audiences.
  • Builds trust with internal and external stakeholders.

Legal Tech & Digital Tools

  • Uses case management systems, document automation, and legal research tools or other relevant tools for support effectively.
  • Uses legal or other relevant business technology tools in line with GDPR, data protection and cyber risk awareness.
